Northeastern University is a private research
university, offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and
graduate programs. There are schools in medicine, nursing, pharmacy,
engineering, law, computer science, criminal justice and business
administration.
Northeastern's main campus is situated
on 67 acres in Boston's cultural district, the Avenue of the
Arts, between the Museum of Fine Arts and Symphony Hall. It consists
of 41 academic and administrative buildings and 28 residence
facilities.
In 2003, there were 14,492 undergraduate
students enrolled full-time and 4,182 part-time students. There
were 2,232 full-time graduate students, 1,443 part-time graduate
students and 593 law students.
The university has 830 full-time faculty
and 316 part-time.
Tuition for 2005 is $28,400 per year with
an additional $10,300 for room and board.
Northeastern was founded in 1898 as a part-time
law school by the YMCA. Demand grew and more subjects were introduced.
Northeastern College was incorporated in 1916.
