The first BJ's opened its doors in Medford, MA in 1984. Today, BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. is a leading wholesale club chain with 195 BJ's clubs in 15 states including:

Membership starts at $50 per year and lets customers buy groceries, meats, clothing, jewelry, office supplies and more at wholesale prices. There are 107 locations with gas stations and optical centers at more than 150. Most customers of BJ's are small-business owners.
On September 30, 2011, BJ’s Wholesale Club was acquired for $2.3 billion by Beacon Holding Inc., an affiliate of Leonard Green & Partners, L.P., and funds advised by CVC Capital Partners. The company is no longer publicly traded.
For fiscal 2010, BJ's reported sales of $10.63 billion, an 8.3% increase, and net income of $95.0 million.
BJ's opened three new stores in January 2012 in Gainesville, VA; Deer Park, NY; and Ithaca, NY.
